Andy Anderson Shreddds Leeside – Like Usual

Another masterful Hi-8 Video by Ethan Craig, this time featuring Protest Skateboards Team Rider Andy Anderson. Andy might be the most underrated skater in the Lower Mainland right now. Everyone who knows this kid knows he is a natural ripper, especially in any tranny, and lands everything he tries, but there are still a lot of people not recognizing him. Fact: how often do you see Andy Anderson in the magazines, yet he wins almost every contest he enters…. King of the Bowls and King of Surrey in 2011, places in the finals at every Bowl Series Contest, 2nd place at the BLVD Kensington Pool Contest and placed 5th at the World Round-Up Freestyle Championships this year, plus took Best Skater Award at Ledge n’ Dairy Best Trick Contest at Chuck Bailey. Street Ripper, Rail Killer, Tranny Destroyer, and even a Freestyle Demo Machine along side Kevin Harris, but where’s the coverage???

I’ve been a huge supporter and massive influence on Andy as he has grown up to this still young age of 16 years old that he is now. I used to teach him stuff all the time since he was 7 years old, and I still push him to learn more and more every day. I’ve taught him a ton about skateboarding, and just as much about life, and I am very proud that he represents for Protest Skateboards when he skates. Andy is amazing. He invents tricks by thinking of it and landing it right away, usually first try. I’m stoked to see him in this profile video by Ethan Craig shredding one of his favourite places to skate – Leeside Memorial Park. Here’s what Ethan had to say about Andy after filming this day, “Andy loves to thrash every little nook and cranny there is at Leeside, here is evidence of Andy shralping nearly almost every DIY obstacle there is. Please, enjoy the rawness of Andy’s skating filmed on a Sony Video 8 camera. In Loving Memory of Lee Matasi and Don “Mad Carver” Hartley in which Andy shows his love and support by continuing to wear his helmet beyond his premature years of skateboarding” – Ethan Craig.

Straight to the point, and very true. Andy Anderson is a skateboard machine. He’s calm, cool and collected, but also overflowing with energy. Now please, somebody give this kid the credit he deserves…

Ethan Craig – Lovin’ the Hi-8

Here’s another stylish video from Ethan Craig filmed all in the month of October completely on a Hi-8 Camera. It’s pretty long but worth a watch, not for the tricks necessarily, or even for all the rippers that are featured in it – Ryley Antoniuk, Gabe Dinorscio, Giet Rolan, Joe Buffalo, Hideki Ishii. Michael Ray, Ryan Lepore, Taylor Senft, Zach Barton, Mike Campbell, Mike Graveline, Adam Hopkins and Many More.  But like I said, this video isn’t about who’s in it, it’s about a guy who loves to film, and loves to edit and it shows. You can really see the premeditated visuals that Ethan carries around in his head prior to going out filming by all the fillers, funky angles and intro shots throughout the video. These are the shots that most people think of after the fact while they’re editing their footage and seeing the backgrounds at spots, where Ethan is seeing it as it happens, and in a way, showing up prepared for it.

It’s a fun video, lots of creative spots in ditches and on the back roads of North Van, at the ramp downtown, and of course at Leeside, and it brings back memories while you watch that old crackly style Hi-8 Footage of how skateboarding used to be when I was young…

Grab a snack and sit down for 20 minutes, and enjoy the show

Finally a Skateboard Video that features Skateboarding

It difficult for me to watch a lot of the Skate Videos that come out now a days because there’s hardly ever any actual skateboarding in them. I mean some filmers are starting to get creative with their intros and outros but when it’s the persons part, it’s just bang, bang, bang, trick after trick. What ever happened to that part where people had to actually skate, and push.

Ethan Craig just released a solid video about a day of skating with Will Blakley downtown Vancouver. It’s awesome for a few reasons:

  1. Ethan pulled out one of the old style Hi-8 cameras to film with. The footage is grainy, and the audio sucks, just the way it used to be.
  2. It shows what a street skater goes through during their normal day of just skating through the city. Lots of interactions with random people, some positive and some very negative.
  3. It lets people see what skateboarding is really all about. Just cruisin’ through your neighbourhood, knowing all the bumps, cracks and funky obstacles like the back of your hand. And just having fun.

I wish the kids of today understood what it’s like to live on your skateboard and not get a ride to the skate park and back, but to just skate wherever you’re going that day and find the path that suits you best.

Thanks Ethan and Will for a great video sparking lots of memories for us older skaters, and hopefully showing the young guns what it’s all about. This video is so “Early 1990’s Style”, the only thing missing is Colin McKay and Rick Howard in Plan B shirts….

You gotta check it
