Street League Stop #3 Reminder

It’s coming like a thunder storm, nothing can stop it.

Street League 2012’s third stop is in Glendale, Arizona this weekend – July 14-15. Nyjah Huston has already proven himself to be the Top Dog of Street Skating after taking 3 out of 4 competitions last year (2011) in the Street League Series winning hundreds of thousands of dollars at such a young age, and this year has already reminded the world why he gets paid to skateboard by winning the first 2 competitions. Stop 3 is ready to start and you can be pretty sure Nyjah is mentally prepared. Can anyone beat this kid??

Ryan Sheckler, Chaz Ortiz, Sean Malto, Chris Cole, Paul Rodriquez – are you out there??

Who can stop the Nyjah Train?

Only one way to find out, ESPN

Stop three: July 14-15
Jobing.com Arena, Glendale, Ariz.

Bones Brigade Documentary At The Rio

Growing up as a skateboarder for majority of my lifetime (since 1986), I was a huge fan of the original Powell Peralta Team known simply as the Bones Brigade. Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Cabellero, Mike McGill and Tommy Guerrero. These 5 guys set a standard back in the 1980’s for skateboarding with their unique styles, amazing vert skills, and ability to land everything they tried. And when they added Freestyle Master/inventer of most flatground tricks we do today, Rodney Mullen, the world was changed forever. My favorite video from back in the original days with the Bones Brigade was definitely The Search for Animal Chin, giving us all one of the most historic photos of all time – Lance, Tony, McGill and Cab all doing handplants at the same time on the same spine – insane. That movie taught a lot of people to search for their inner selves and express it through skateboarding. Stacy Peralta and George Powell – thank you for creating a company that was all about the love for the sport and bringing us some of the most amazing people to look up to back then. With Powell Peralta as still one of the top companies in the industry, I can’t wait to see what memories they share with us in this video.

Sunday, July 15th, 2012 will be a busy day for skaters in the Lower Mainland:

Bowl Series at Griffin Park

Another Event a Kensington Park

And the Bones Brigade Video Premiere

What a great place to live…

Another Online Video Contest

This looks like a really fun experience for anyone to participate in, just make a skate video maximum 3 minutes long, upload to Youtube and submit to Lucky. Simple.

You have from July 1st – July 31st to submit which is plenty of time to film a 3 minute part. Majority of the kids around here now a days could film a 3 minute part in 3 minutes…

I like that it’s called Canada’s First Online Contest, but it’s unfortunately not. But that’s okay, this is going to be one of the new styles we are all going to see constantly popping up in the future. I like the online contest versions because it gives everyone a fair chance to get some exposure.

I guess we’ll be getting some of the same competitors entering this one as “Show Up Mike”. I think I’ll even be entering a video myself.

Better start filming.

Volcom – Wild in the Parks 2012

It’s that time of year again. The annual Volcom Contests have begun. Be ready for the Railside Contest in Port Coquitlam coming up fast – June 30th. Who’s gonna be there, I don’t know. I would assume that Mickey Papa will be kickin’ around, and I’m hoping that Dominic Devries will be competing. Both of those guys destroy that place. I guess the only way to see who’s in it is to show up.

Registration starts at 11am and the contest ends when it’s over.

Hit the Volcom Site for more detailed information, or to watch highlights from the events that have already happened.

Tony Hawk at Hastings Park – July 28th

I heard the rumours the other day, and now it’s confirmed – Tony Hawk and the Birdhouse Team will be arriving in town at the end of July and shredding Hastings Park. I remember one time Tony Hawk came to Hastings when I was there, it was back in 2001 or 2002 and he came up with the Tony Hawk Tour Bus. That was a sick day of skating, lots of awesome tricks went down. I remember getting my shirt signed by Tony and when I told him to write “Ravers Rule” he just laughed and asked me if I actually watched the video Ravers (The original Birdhouse Video from 1993). I told him it was one of my favorites.

Now over a decade later, this amazing man we refer to as a legendary skateboarder is coming back for more. Hastings, be forewarned.

The Hawk will be soaring through July 28th.

Other names included on the Tour – Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Willy Santos, Kevin Staab, Clint Walker, Clive Dixon, David Loy, Shaun Gregoire, Shawn Hale and Michael Davis.
