This Saturday, May 4^th, Jeff Cole will be hosting a Youth Week Skate Event at the Plaza in Vancouver. Here’s the Press Release for it:

7th Annual Vancouver Youth Week Skateboard Event

The Vancouver Skateboard Coalition (VSBC), in co-operation with the City of Vancouver and the Thunderbird and Roundhouse Community Centres, would like to invite you to the seventh annual Vancouver Youth Week Skate Event, a free, non-competitive event which will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday, May 4th from 1:00 until 4:00pm at The Skateboard Plaza (under the Georgia Viaduct at the intersection of Union St. and Quebec St.).

As one of the most popular elements of Vancouver Youth Week since 2007, the Skate Event is a family-friendly celebration of skateboarding and skateboard culture that is geared towards the younger age demographic of Vancouver’s skateboard scene. Featuring prize giveaways, skate demos by Underworld Skateshop and Supra Shoes, music by DJs AC and Randal D, a Tacofino food cart, and information booths from a number of youth-oriented organizations, this year’s event will be another fun, exciting, and interactive day for everyone involved.

The Vancouver Skateboard Coalition is a volunteer organization whose mission is to act as an entity that is accessible to all skateboarders, promoting unity throughout our city’s diverse skateboard scene and taking a proactive role in creating and maintaining a safe, fun environment that all Vancouver skateboarders can enjoy for years to come. Surrey Youth Week Jam 2013

Another year of skateboard contests is about to begin and you know that the City of Surrey hosts more events than any other city around. This will actually be the 3^rd event at Chuck Bailey Skate Park in the year 2013 but it will be the first full contest of the year.

Youth Week runs nationally every year on the first week of May – May 1-7, and every year Hippie Mike hosts at least one big event in Surrey. This year it will be at Chuck Bailey Youth Park – 13458 107A ave – and there will be 2 separate competitions, one for skateboarding and one for BMX. Friday, May 3^rd at 4pm the event will begin with qualifying heats for both activities in different age groups 9 & under; 10-13; 14-18; 19 & over. The qualifiers for each category will make it to the finals later in the evening where they will compete for the prizes.

Registration starts at 3pm so get there right after school or work.

And the Surrey Firefighters will also be present running a Free BBQ and participating in some Basketball Tournaments happening inside the Rec Centre.

So come out, have fun, and bring your helmet if you got one.

One Love Skate Shop is kicking off Spring with a contest at that tight little pink park – Pitt Meadows on March 9^th, 2013. If you haven’t been to Pitt Meadows before, it is definitely worth checking out, just try and go when the kids are in school so you don’t have to barge through 20 scooters. There’s tranny, manuals, ledges, and a couple funky obstacles. In other words, it should make for a fun time.

If the world’s gonna end – we’re goin’ out in style

They say that December 21^st, 2012 is going to be the end of the Earth, that all hell is going to break loose and meteors are going to fall from the sky and kill us all, demolishing the planet we live on. I say bullshit…

In all the years I’ve been alive there have been many times where we are told the whole world is going down. And no one even cares about this prediction, they’re all non-believers. Sorry Mayans.

My favourite threat like this was the Millennium when all technology was supposed to fail us and we were all going to be helpless for weeks and months if we weren’t prepared. Oh we prepared alright, by going to Barbados where we could warm and relaxed and make sure we would enjoy ourselves if we couldn’t utilize technology to survive. Oh no, please don’t trap me on this beautiful island where we have plenty of natural substances and just enough people to share them with. But unfortunately the reality I believed was true and we still had a plane to catch on January 2^nd. Now the earth is going to explode? Sure.

Either way I’m going to prepare to go out in style like always.

Join me for the end of the earth on December 21^st – 4-8pm at Chuck Bailey Skate Park where I will be dressed as Santa Claus handing out gifts to everyone who shows up for a session in the park.

Sounds Pretty Sweet

A long awaited film from Girl Skateboards, this one should be pretty amazing, or Pretty Sweet, as the title promotes.

This Saturday November 17^th, 2012 the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, BC will be packed with skateboarders of all ages, eras and generations. Doors open at 7pm. Hopefully you got your tickets ahead of time or you might have to wait for the DVD release.

Girl is a sick company who has always had a solid team of riders.

Okay it’s here, the Protest Best Trick Contest, and it’s open World-Wide!!

Compete to win a huge Prize Pack containing:

a Protest – Hippie Mike Deck, an Old School Shaped Protest Team Deck,

2 T-shirts, a Trucker Hat and a Custom Protest Skateboards Hoodie.

All you have to do is film any trick, anywhere, edit it into a video that states your name and what trick it is, upload it to Youtube or Vimeo and submit the link on the website www.protestskateboards.com

Then get your friends to vote for your videos.

On December 17^th, voting will close and the Top 10 videos (ones with the most votes) will be judged by the Protest Team and a winner will be chosen.

Winner will be announced December 20^th, 2012
